Dutchess ARC's Laurel Run – May 18, 2008

On a sunny, brisk Sunday morning, Dutchess ARC’s Laurel Run 2008 attracted over 300 runners and walkers from around the tri-state area to Freedom Park in Lagrange, NY. Events included a 10 Mile, 5K, Kids Half-Mile and a leisurely 2 Mile Walk. Over 70 walkers came with pledges in hand to support Dutchess ARC’s Spring fund-raiser. Laurel Hotelling, namesake of the race, with her parents Wayne and Elaine, was the highlight of the day, smiling and posing for photos with runners, and giving out the awards.

Games and activities for kids ranging from the bouncy castle to trying a hand at drumming with Drums 2 Go kept the youngsters busy. Massages and adjustments were offered by Exelbert Chiropractic of Hyde Park and Dr. Joe DeTullio from Pleasant Valley. Attendees also had the chance to make a few purchases at iRUNLIKEAGIRL ... definitely worth a look! And My Brother Bobby's Salsa and chips was a sample of the satisfying treats available to those who ran, and those who didn't. The overall winner of the 10 Mile was Joseph Ekuom, Westchester Track Club with a time of 54:55, and Conni Grace of Poughquag led the women at 1:05:57.Winners in the 5K were Chris Tuttle from Hopewell Junction coming in at 17:15 and Marisa Hanson of Pleasant Valley who was second overall and first in the women’s race at 17:55. CJ DeRosa was the leader in the Kids Half-Mile with finishing at 2:55.

We thank all the volunteers and sponsors from the Mid-Hudson Roadrunners, and the Dutchess County community whose generosity, dedication and commitment made for a fun-filled, family oriented event! See you next year!
